Strategy

  • Collaborate with Aquatic Life Institute’s other networks, including animal welfare, science, veterinary, legal, industry and aquaria coalitions to advance holistic solutions in the nexus of wild and farmed fisheries

  • Collective lobbying of decision-makers at various levels (local, national, and international)

  • Sign on to various position statements to ensure wide adoption

Vision

  • CAC unites conservation experts and organizations from around the world that share a common goal: A world in which all aquatic animals live meaningful lives.

  • To truly ensure healthy oceans and aquatic animals, we must begin to incorporate an animal welfare lens into our marine conservation efforts. As a coalition of ocean conservation and animal welfare advocates, we will be able to add a collective voice to initiatives, share research insights, and coordinate campaigns as part of a united, multi-pronged, worldwide movement.

Work

  • Members of the CAC have founded two working groups to date: 1) Aquatic Animal Welfare & Sustainability; and 2) Welfare Issues in Capture Fisheries.

  • The CAC is very proud to have contributed to the publication of this new report:  Benefits of Aquatic Animal Welfare for Sustainability. The summary report is available here and the full report is here

  • Another report, Key Welfare Recommendations for Capture Fisheries, is currently being drafted.

  • All members have access to sign on to ALI’s Public Comments.
